Around twenty-five thousand homes in southeastern Queensland woke up without power on Monday's dawn after severe thunderstorms swept through the state, bringing powerful gusts hitting 109 kilometers per hour.

Massive Frozen Precipitation and Widespread Destruction

Locals reported substantial frozen pellets as large as 7cm in particular locations. Weather authorities announced that multiple regions across the state had been hit with large hailstones.

Response teams were focused on reestablishing power throughout the impacted areas, with dozens of response units deployed to address the extensive power failures.

Victorian Storm Challenges

Simultaneously, around one thousand energy customers in Victoria also experienced electricity disruptions after the metropolitan area saw its most precipitation in 18 months.

Rescue organizations responded to over five hundred requests for assistance across the state, mostly for property damage but also for collapsed vegetation and water accumulation.

At the height on the previous day, over 28k electricity consumers in the state were experiencing outages.

Meteorological Predictions

Humid circumstances were forecast to persist along much of Queensland's east this next several days as a low-pressure trough continued to draw in moisture against the coastal areas.

The following day was forecast to be the most rainy day, with persistent thunderstorm potential predicted across various areas of both states.

Health officials cautioned that there was an higher risk of weather-related respiratory issues across the state's northern country region, particularly given the existing atmospheric conditions.
